FAT- Foods and Travels

If you are burnt cheesecake lover, you will definitely heard about Nippori, which has sold more than 10,000 burnt cheesecake during movement control period (MCO). Nippori, first introduce itself in 2016 by serving japanese food at Empire Damansara.

This year in October, Nippori diversify their business into Japanese Western fusion dish by opening a restaurant name Nippori Bistro at Petaling Jaya. According to the menu, you will able to find traditional Japanese breakfast consisting rice to the commonly eaten English breakfast, Japanese donburi and Pizza. They also serve varieties of home-baked pastries and cake.

Let’s go into food right now.
Unstoppable Avo - RM32
This Unstoppable Avo consists on fine cut crab meat , diced avocado mixed with mayonnaise, wasabi, spring onion and tobiko wrapped with crispy seasweed. Like the name indicate once I start its unstoappable. I like it very much.
Deep Sea Konbu- RM39
It is one of the chef recommendations. Heavy cream sauce base with melted deep sea seaweed and assorted seafood cooked with spaghetti topped with crispy seaweed. Personally, nothing special about this dish but the taste is nice and the seafood is fresh. However, the portion is small according to my friend.
Tofu Minced Chicken - RM30
We also ordered their dontoburi, which is a Japanese rice bowl dish consisting of fish/meat/vegetable or other ingredients severed over steamed rice. Usually dontoburi will served on the oversized rice bowl. Among the 3 available option, we go for tofu minced chicken (picture shown above). According to them, the tofu minced chicken is a blend of healthy minced chicken breast with Japanese tofu. This dish to serve with their home made sweet sauce and an egg. For the taste, I would said the home made sweet sauce is too sweet for my own liking although I eat together with the steam rice but my friend can accept it.
Smoked Duck Pizza- Rm38
We also ordered pizza from the menu and this smoked duck pizza is also one of the chef recommendation. This pizza consists of smocked duck with slide mushroom, cottage cheese, tomatoes with freshly grated parmesan cheese and mozzarella cheese. From the ingredients list, can you feel the fats? Hahah! Yes its fattening based on the different type of cheese but the taste is nice and I like smoked duck, so this pizza are perfect to my liking.

Not to mention, they also offer variety of pastries but we didn’t order any cause we are too full after the pizza.
The famous art piece there- Fat Monalisa
Overall, Nippori Bistro serve great food and the environment is comfortable. I will be back for the breakfast and dessert. I recommend booking your table in advance to avoid disappointment.

Soybean, unique food that contains antioxidants and phytonutrients that are linked to various health benefits. There are various soy product are available in Malaysia such as soy milk, tofu, soya bean curd(taufufa) and today I would like to share my personal review on this shop- SOYLAB 帅不离.

SOYLAB 帅不离, located at Damansara Uptown. Like the name indicate all their products are soy based and one of the mission is to source and select healthy and the finest non-GMO beans from all over the world. Not to mention, all their product contain zero-preservatives & additives.

They offer a variety of soy based product include soy ice-cream, soy shaving ice, soy waffle, soy souffle pancake, soy cubes, soy beancurd and soy milk. Since we just had our dinner, so we just order their must order soy shaving ice, soy souffle pancake and a cup of soy milk.
Soy Shaving Ice
Let's start with the soy shaving ice. It comes with glass jelly, boba, redbean, crunchy crushed peanuts and brown sugar syrup and it do serves taufufah at the bottom too, quite a surprise for us.The fog effect you see in the picture is from the dry ice and not to mention the dry ice definately making this dessert more insta-worthy.

As for the taste, I like the soy flavoured fine ice comes with brown sugar syrup and crunchy crushed peanut but the Boba is not chewy enough and too hard for me so I would like to rate 3/5 for this.
Soy Souffle Pancake
We also had the Signature soy souffle pancake. Three thick airy pancake topped with soy whipped cream and served with brown sugar syrup with their signature soy soft serve. I like how the soy make an extra flavor boost for it. Texture is less fluffy than the ones I had in Japan but the taste itself was good. Not to forget, the soya soft serve is definitely a plus point. It's not too sweet and it will make you coming back for more. I would give it a 4/5.
If you're a person who likes soya beans, you can pay Soylab 帅不离 a visit.

Holidays are a great occasions to gather with friends. My friend and I decided to meet up for brunch at LI restaurant, bridging the gap between kopitiam classic and modern cooking technique. It is located opposite Atria Shopping Gallery. A restaurant founded by three close friends, who studied hospitality together at Melbourne. It is a simple, clean and modern restaurant with a white interior. Evoke a leisurely and relaxed feeling.
Pork Toast  (RM9.50)
Must try dish in LI. Toast slides topped with minced pork, drizzled with ample homemade chili mayo and cilantro. It's a delicious combination. Your taste buds will be doing a happy dance in your mouth when you bite into this crispy pork toast with slightly spicy flavours.

Homemade Sourdough with Sous Vide Kaya & Sea Salt Butter (RM7)
We also ordered housemade sourdough. The sourdough bread is light, fluffy and had a nice crisp to it as it has been toasted. The sour taste from the sourdough goes well with sea salt butter and their special smooth, sweet. light and creamy kaya. Overall, it was a classic food with some modern twist that no one can resist. Great news, especially for those who likes their kaya, they sell kaya in jar !

House Rice Bowl (RM17.90)
One of my favourite dish is the rice bowl with tender and juicy chicken thigh, beautifully done soft boiled egg, ginger scallion sauce, chili mayo and cucumber. Mix it all together and you get a pleasantly strange surprise bowl of goodness.

Calamansi w Kaffir Lime Leaves (RM7)
A refreshing beverage, served chilled, and goes great with a variety of dishes. This drink reminded me of the Malaysian mamak favourite, limau ais.

All in all, LI's service was good, food was great too. For those looking for a local flavours with some modern twist, LI Restaurant might be your choice.

Thai is one of my favorite cuisines so I decided to try out KomPassion for their awesome non-halal fusion Thai food, with plenty of pork dishes in the menu.

KomPassion located at Damansara Kim, In here, the designers kept everything simple. They used limited colors and textures but they everything in balance with creativity such as taps that has the lamps hanging on it.

Service is friendly and attentive here. The staff will present you with a table menu with detailed description of the food items. You can see some wonderful ideas such as Vietnamese pork satay spring roll and grilled shabu shabu salad here.

One of their starter is Vietnamese Spring Roll with Smoked Duck (RM17.90) . The roll is made from carrots, sengkuang, cucumber, mint leaves. lettuce and smoked duck wrapped together with a rice paper wrap. The wrap is surrounded with chopped tomatoes, chopped roasted almond pieces and fried shallots with tangy sauce. The highlight of dish is the smoked duck which was expertly cooked, juicy, smoky and utterly crave able.

Of course, more mainstream dishes like Tom Yum Seafood (RM38/RM50) are also obtainable at KomPassion. At here, you can choose your spicness (1-3) and we opted for Level 2 spiciness. Soup was a nice blend of sweet and sour and flavoured with tiger prawn, mushroom, galangal, kaffir lime juice, squid and chili flakes.

We also ordered one of their specials Double Cooked Pork Belly with Soft Shell Crab (RM65) and it's also a the most expensive dish on the menu. Although it's expensive but also our favorite and memorable dish to order here. In this dish, the served melt in your mouth and super-succulent pork belly with crunchy crackling. The thick & caramelized onion green curry sauce topping is definitely a great match with the pork. Of course not to forget the crispy, juicy and non-greasy soft shell crab with crunchy vegetable and ground peanuts. Overall, I found the combination pretty interesting and it's highly recommended.

Paku with garlic (RM28) was the vegetable dish of the day.

As for dessert, we ordered the refreshing thai desserts Ice-cream with Jackfruit and Red Ruby (RM10) and the not too sweet Coconut Cheesecake with Cendol and Attap Palm Seed drizzled with Gula Melaka (rm10). Conclusion KomPassion definitely didn't disappoint, and worth the price for the good food and great ambiance.

P/S: If you're planning to dine with a large group, it is advisable to make reservations as the restaurant can get pretty packed at night.
